Andrea Motis is a celebrated Spanish jazz trumpeter, vocalist, and saxophonist known for her emotive performances and multilingual repertoire, performing in Catalan, Spanish, Portuguese, and English. She began her musical journey at the age of seven at the Municipal School of Music of Sant Andreu and by fifteen, she recorded her debut album Joan Chamorro Presents Andrea Motis, featuring jazz standards.
Since the early stages of her career, Andrea has collaborated closely with guitarist Josep Traver, whom she began playing with at the age of thirteen. She describes their musical connection as uniquely profound, stating, “The magic that exists between the two of us is very difficult to reproduce with other people, because he is the guitarist with whom I have played the most, and for years we have listened to each other almost every day.” Andrea appreciates Traver’s subtlety and eclectic background, which stems from his extensive professional experience. The repertoire they play as a duo has a distinctly jazzy epicenter, but as they’re mostly drawn to the form of songs, they love to move between genres, from country and blues to singer-songwriter music and Brazilian sounds.
